Canberra turned on a stunning late winter’s day as thousands of people attended the annual ANU Open Day to learn more about options for undergraduate and postgraduate study.

Academics and staff reported one of the busiest Open Days in years, with strong interest in College of Arts and Social Sciences disciplines including international relations and two of our newest offerings  – Master of Criminology and Bachelor of Political Science.

ANU Open Day is an opportunity for prospective students to discover the beautiful campus, disciplines on offer, as well as a get an insight into student life at ANU.

As well  as presentations, hundreds of people passed through the School of Music and School of Art precincts, which hosted Open House activities, showcasing what potential disciplines and workshops can be studied.

“Everywhere I went there were lots of people at our stalls and we had very good numbers attending all the presentations – undergraduate and post graduate,” College interim Dean, Professor Paul Pickering, said.

“CASS scheduled 27 presentations, which by any measure is an outstanding effort.”

Humanities Research Centre head, Professor Will Christie, represented the College in the inaugural ANU Battle of the Brains, a debate about whose discipline reigned supreme.

Two students dressed as gladiators turned heads while leading tours to the ANU Classics Museum, while visits to the Ethel Tory Centre, the College’s languages hub, were also well-attended.

ANU Open Day is the largest single event on the university’s calendar. It is a chance for potential students in Canberra and around Australia to get a glimpse of campus life and learn more about courses and disciplines at the country’s number-one ranked university for humanities and social sciences.
